Where Your Food Really Comes From...

News Flash!!  Meat does not 'come from' the grocery store and vegetables don't grow in cans.  I know most of you already know that, but it's suprising how many people are oblivious to the fact.  I was lucky enough to have grown up on a farm, my dad "grows" cattle - tasty, tasty cattle...  I learned exactly where meat comes from - all I had to do was look out the window.  As for the vegetables, they were in mom's garden.

Unfortunately, not all kids grow up with that kind of experience.  Living in the city some may have never even seen a real farm except on TV or in books.  Well, the kids attending this Brooklyn school are learning very quickly that food doesn't just magically appear in packages on grocery store shelves. They are getting into the 'meat' of things - literally.

I challenge you to think about the food you eat.  Do you know where it came from and how it got into the form that you're eating?  If you end up with an answer like, "the factory" or worse yet, "the laboratory" are you sure you really want to be eating it?

Rule to live by:
It's safe for consumption if it lives, grows, rots, dies and generally goes bad after about 3 days in the refrigerator.  Otherwise, all bets are off.

  2. I love your rule to live by - it is so true! I have been eating pretty clean these days. Still like a little sugar now and then, though. ;)
